task 16 - changes
One element of the video I decided to change during the planning stage is a part of the narrative. Originally, the video was going to open on a shot of the protagonist in his bedroom having a nightmare and transitioning into a dream, which would be the basis of the song. However, I have decided to change this, as I feel this would look out of place and slightly cheesy too. For the benefit of professionalism, this is why I have decided to not include this section.
I have also introduced another character, who is also unnamed, who will play the role of the protagonist's girlfriend. She will be introduced half-way through the song and also lip-sync some of the backing vocals, as previously there would not have been a character who lip-syncs the backing vocals. I have also decided against my initial idea of having backing singers dressed in a way so that they contrast with the protagonist, but now I feel it would be better to have the protagonist's girlfriend dressed in a similar manner that he is, in order to help the audience identify the connection between them.
Another change that was made is some of the locations. During the early stages of planning, I was going to shoot on location in Ashton Court and/or Blaise Castle. Both of these locations would act as the 'park' in the song. However, I decided to change these locations to Kings Weston House instead, as it is easier to get to to film there. It also has the benefit of a house, which can feature in the finished video. Because these parks are similar visually, I don't feel the video will lack any quality if it would have been filmed at either Ashton Court or Blaise Castle, so I am not worried about the video quality if I film there. However, Kings Weston House is smaller than the other two locations and pedestrians may be a problem, especially if there are a lot of them, although judging from the location footage/shooting I made, combined with the fact that it will be December when I film, I doubt there will be many people there. Whilst we were there, we found out how well the location looks in the sun, so knowing the location will look good was a plus to film there too.
I have also decided not to film in the Bear Pit, in the centre of Bristol, on the basis that the location is usually busy and also further away, meaning that weather there may change by the time we get there to shoot. Instead, I am going to film the same shot at my primary location, Kings Weston House. When I was up there to gather the storyboard images, I found that this can in fact be achieved.
During the planning stage I decided to film some shots on College Green as well. This is not an effort to get there (as I am also filming inside Bristol Cathedral), and the surrounding buildings will offer a change of scenery to the video. Also, the fact that the characters in the video are moving around will signify to the viewer that the characters may be on some kind of journey.
In my original planning, I had the idea to change the audio so that it would pan around in the final section, however I have decided against this as I do not believe I would be able to replicate the effect with much success.
